I have the same problem with my home network. The Apex goes through searching for networks, then it says and displays a message that it's connecting to my network, and finally it just says, "Not connected," and falls back into the wireless connectivity menu.
Some folks have suggested re-creating the connection configuration to see if the result is an improvement. This didn't help at all for me. Your friend may have to contact Humanware. Personally, I wonder if the connection arbitration is taking just a little bit longer and some time-out period is being exceeded. I have to call Humanware again and try to get some help.
