Hi folks,
I enjoyed reading various responses about the zip command and
other useful topics. Thanks Josh for telling us about the "real"
nature of free database space feature.
This is just the first part of the message, as the second part
(coming up next) spells out opinions about SDK from myself and
other programmers on this list. But first, here are some points
on recent topics:
* Free database space: I'd like to see some better explanation on
the manual in the future please.
* Zip command: Almost all File Manager items have associated
shortcut keys in the file list. For instance, BACKSPACE with Y
is associated with Copy, while BACKSPACE with Z refers to Zip
command. But for those who may not know about this, I'd like to
thank Zach for bringing this up (it's sort of a "discovery").
As for other file commands, I'd personally ask HW to arrange the
file commands so that it mirrors Email Action Menu structure,
with some KeyMail features ported to files such as search. We
also would like to see what Josh has proposed: more shortcut keys
in file lists such as translation.
* Voice Sense: As of now, I don't want to judge the product yet -
the best time to make the correct decision is to see what HIMS
does with version 6.0 firmware of theirs. But at a personal
level, I'm convinced that the underlying OS would give HIMS a
headache later - unless if HIMS decides to upgrade later. In
order to spare misinformation, I'd rather not discuss my
reasoning here - unless if and only if enough people demand it,
but I'm sure you already know why.
* Moonlite and other April Fools jokes: I enjoyed Peter's "prank"
yesterday, as well as a discussion that came out. Moon type is
something that should be computerized before it can be produced
in massive quantities. Also, I expect that we won't see it
properly unless two-dimensional tactile screens are implemented
(no, it will not be a braille screen at all, rather, a
specialized capacitive touch interface).
Like last year's pranks, Peter's message conveys a thoughtful
suggestion to HW: "please update your feature sets." We would
like to see it come to fruition as soon as possible, but with any
product development, cost and effort must be calculated as well
as counting whether a group of features are worthy to be
included. I think, from users' point of view, having this kind
of humorous message should serve both as a reminder (for parties
involved) and a showcase for creative literature and suggestion.
More thoughts coming up...
Cheers,
Joseph
