The bn family has been, from the start, a companion or pda, not a pc replacement. None of these devices (bn, sense, braille plus, even iTouch or Android phones and tablets) are meant to fully replace a pc base station. That said, there are plenty of things that can be done to increase productivity (twitter, podcasting, internet radio, pdf viewing, email stabilizing, games, and more). At the end of the day, though, all these devices are meant to go with you and help you when you are not at a pc, but not meant to take the place of a pc entirely.
Yes, you can move through menus with space and backspace, or space-1 and space-4, or press the hotkey (almost always the first letter) of the option you want, or use the thumb keys. Navigation is quite straightforward in most situations.
