Again, my responses are below your questions.

It will come on and sound an alarm. You can then cancel the alarm,
make it "snooze", or any of a list of commands, all without the device
needing to be turned on. Once you have entered a command, it will turn
off again. There is only one alarm sound, a very insistent double beep
sound, but you can set the volume on a scale from 1-32.

The dot 6 is used for capitalization in grades 1 and 2 as well as UEB.
You can also set the unit to use 8 dot computer braille, where typing
a letter together with the backspace key will capitalize the letter.
Finally, you can do the same capitalization trick in computer braille
by hitting backspace-h, which will tell the bn that the next character
entered will be an 8 dot character. This is nice because, with 8 dot
computer braille enabled all the time, commands like new line or
volume and speech controls must be entered with a space. If you plan
to use grade 2 or grade 1, though, none of this is a concern.

I rarely listen to podcasts, but if the link ends up at an mp3, wma,
wav, or other supported file, you can just open it with the web
browser and it will stream in the background. You can switch over to
the media player to control the file (jump through it), or raise/lower
the volume and pause or play the file from anywhere. You cannot
control the speed or pitch.

You can make folders, but filtering is not possible, and subfolders
are also not possible. Several people, myself included, have had bad
luck with the email database getting corrupted. There are ways to fix
this, but be aware that it can happen. Backups are a very good idea.
Personally, I have been using the gMail mobile website for email for a
couple years now, and I have never looked back. I can still send from
the email program, so I can attach files, translate them to
pc-friendly formats, use my address list, and all that, but reading
messages is better on the site since I can filter, I have a good spam
filter, and more that I won't get into now.

These are good questions that others may find helpful, so I will keep
this on list for now.
