Hi Matthew,

Hi All, How would I use my BN as a braille display for my Iphone 4
with voice over enabled and touchtyping enabled? I think I'm running
the latest version IOS. I know this has been talked about before, I
don't mean to irritate anyone just wondering. I looked for any braille
settings in voice over in settings > general > accessibility, but did
not see anything. Then I looked in Bluetooth but I did not know which
to turn on first, the bouetooth on the Ophone or on the Bn. I'm
running ks 9.1 on my BN. Also for some reason the VO sounds like the
popping when double tapping have disappeared how do I reactivate them.
Thanks in advance and best regards,
Matthew

Bluetooth will have to be turned on for both devices. On the iPhone, go into Settings, then General, then Accessibility. Toward the top of the Accessibility settings, you'll find VoiceOver. Open that one, and scroll to the second screen. The next to the last setting, I think, is Braille. Double-tap it to open. If your iPhone detects your Apex, you'll see it as an available device. Now comes the tricky part. When you tap Apex, you'll then need to quickly find the zero, tap that four times quickly, then find the Pair button quickly and tap that. Oh yeah, before you pair the two devices, first go into Terminal from the Apex's main menu. Select Bluetooth as the connection method. I learned this latter point the hard way, as VoiceOver kept telling me that it couldn't load the display driver, so be sure to go into Terminal first.

One more thing; under Accessibility, there's a setting called triple-click Home. You can set this to turn VoiceOver on or off. That way, if you accidentally kill VoiceOver, tap Home three times and it's back on.

It's tricky doing the pairing, but once you get it, you shouldn't have to worry about it again for a while. I've found that the pairing stays in effect pretty reliably.

Have fun with it. It's neat to be able to work with the iPhone and the Apex, even while doing other things like bouncing in and out of other BrailleNote apps like the word processor and even Sendero GPS. Yes, the Apex will talk to both the iPhone and the GPS receiver concurrently. I had this setup going on the way home from work. Pretty cool, actually.
