No. You can not open them even with the latest keysoft version
but you can convert them to a format that your apex can use with
online-convert.com. If you convert them on your apex then make
sure scripting is disabled.

Subject: [Braillenote] Reading Documents in Word 2007 or Higher
Hi listers. For those of you who don't remember me, my name is
Michele Thredgold. I have been on and off the list at different
times but I'm back now with a new BrailleNote APEX, which I've
had since December, and which I adore. It's great to be back and
I extend my warmest regards to you all, those whom I've met on
list and those whom I haven't.
Now to my question: does Keysoft 9,2 allow one to read documents
in Word 20007 and up? I had a couple of documents in forms of
Word higher than 2003 and wasn't sure whether my APEX was
equipped to open them? I definitely have the latest version of
Keysoft.
Thanks.
Cheers!
Michele
