Hi,
Fixing this problem means doing some "deeper" tweaking to let KeySoft show the progress message. This is because another program (not KeySoft) is involved when doing these operations. For example, there is a program called "apexzip" which handles zipping and unzipping functionality, and this program doesn't report its progress to KeySoft. This is because the program is an application itself (an executable), not an extension, hence not being able to show you what it is doing. As for other messages, I'd hypothesize that its the file system that is doing its job while not reporting its progress to KeySoft. Fixing this issue (that is, showing progress message) would, I think, require some underlying tweak under KeySoft with various solutions and flaws: * Using extension version of the program: By far, this would be the simplest solution, but we have a big drawback: KeySoft might slow down because it needs to load the extension for that operation before the operation, let the extension handle it and close it immby when all operations are done (so a momentary slow down could be expected). * Telling the application to show output: This would require some harder tweak, but it is slightly clean. But then we're open to stalls and possibility of bad operation, which would crash the program which is performing the requested operation. So, to put it in simle words: the fix is not availible for now, but I'm sure HW is aware of it; its just that some other program is performing an operation that doesn't report its progress to you.
Cheers,
Joseph

Subject: [Braillenote] Please Wait Messages

Hi listers. Would it be viable to have more information provided
with "please wait" messages? For example, when unzipping Marvin's
programs onto my flash drive, it would have been helpful for the
APEX to provide me with a percentage, like JAWS does, while it's
unzipping - the same as when a file is downloading. One can't
even press the information command without it beeping at you to
say you're doing the incorrect thing. When all you get is
"please wait", that could mean anything from the BN doing it's
thing, to its being stuck in a cycle of just beeping and saying
"please wait" but not being able to get past a particular part of
what it's doing. I hope I'm making sense.

Cheers!

Michele

Ps on a different topic, if I want to identify at the end of each
email message that it was written on my BrailleNote, do I have to
do that manually each time or is it possible to create a
signature?

Thanks.
