I have already sent out the article supporting my claim that there is in fact a 6.0 for the classic.

Hi,
6.0 was for PK only. If there was a 6.0 for Classic, then we'd
had that announcement and a lot of work involved when using 6.0
with Classic because of hardware differences. For Classic, 6.1
would be the requirement; 6.2 is for mPower.
If you want me to, I'd be happy to pull some articles supporting
our claim.
Cheers,
Joseph

Subject: Re: [Braillenote] Keysoft 6.0

No. I did some reading on the hw site. It is keysoft 6.0 that I
am looking for. It is definitely not 6.11. I need the keysoft
6.0
in order to upgrade to the keysoft 7.2. There are both a 6.0
and
a 7.2 for the classic. The info for 7.2 is at
support.humanware.com/Site/Files/a/06cc20404d351cbaa2520fcd0d5adc
3/18cfb9ca93b63b675171e586598af24e/keysoft_7.2_upgrade%20_instruc
tions_classic_web_download_version.txt. It says that in order
for
me to upgrade to this 7.2 I first need to install 6.0. This is a
problem because 7.2 is on the site but 6.0 is not. I have
contacted them like it says to do but they have not gotten back
to me and it has been weeks. This is the article that I put the
link for above. KeySoft 7.2 Upgrade Instructions -
BrailleNote and VoiceNote Classic.

This document contains instructions on how to install the KeySoft
7.2 upgrade on
your BrailleNote or VoiceNote Classic (referred to as your
Classic throughout this
document.) Separate 'Upgrade Instructions' are provided for each
Notetaker model,
that is, the mPower, PK and Classic. The instructions are
different for each model, so
you need to ensure that you are using the appropriate
instructions for your model.

Use these Upgrade Instructions to upgrade your Classic to KeySoft
7.2 via the
internet.

The KeySoft 7.2 upgrade requires that you are on KeySoft version
6.0 or higher. If
your machine is not, then you will need to complete a separate
installation procedure
to upgrade your unit to at least 6.0 before continuing with
upgrading to KeySoft 7.2.
If you do not have access to a previous upgrade then please
contact your Distributor.

It is essential that you read all of the following instructions
before starting the
upgrade. You might like to transfer them to another computer,
emboss, or print them
for reference during the upgrade process.

Should something go wrong during or after the installation,
troubleshooting
information is provided at the end of this document.

What you will need for the Upgrade.

As well as your BrailleNote or VoiceNote Classic, you will need
the following:

1. A CompactFlash (CF) card. You must use a CF card in the CF
card slot on the
Classic for the upgrade. The CF card used for upgrading must be
at least 64
megabytes in size and no more than 512 megabytes. It must be
formatted as
described in the 'Formatting your CompactFlash card' section.

2. A way of downloading the KeySoft 7.2 upgrade file and
copying it onto the CF
card. You can download this file directly onto the CF using your
Classic or
download it using a PC with an internet connection and a Compact
Flash card
reader. The file is over 30 Megabytes in size, so if you are
using a modem then it
will take 1 to 2 hours to download. If you have faster access,
then it's preferable to
use it.

Warnings.

The following warnings are very important. Please read and
follow.

HumanWare strongly recommends that you backup your Flash Disk
before
performing the upgrade.

Throughout the installation, your Classic must remain connected
via the AC adapter
at all times.

You must use the CompactFlash card slot on the back panel of the
Classic, not the
PCMCIA slot with an adapter.

Do not switch off, reset the unit, or remove the CompactFlash
card at any time while
the upgrade is in progress.

Once the installation commences, you must let it run to
completion. Stopping the
upgrade part way through may cause the Classic to stop
functioning and require you
to send it back for service.

Formatting your CompactFlash card.

Note: If you have previously formatted a CompactFlash card (to
FAT16) for
installing KeySoft, you can reuse this card to install this
upgrade. Please go to the
next section - 'Downloading the Product Key.'

The Classic installation software requires the CF card to be
formatted for FAT rather
than the more common FAT32. Formatting erases all existing data
from the card; so
if your card contains data you want to keep, copy it to somewhere
else before
proceeding. Formatting cannot be done on the Classic, so you
will need access to a
PC with a Compact Flash card reader.

To format the CompactFlash card prior to downloading the Product
Key and
software, you will need to follow these instructions:

1. Obtain access to a PC with a CompactFlash card reader
attached.

2. Place the CompactFlash card into the reader and ensure that
you can access it.

3. There are many ways to format a CompactFlash card from
within the Windows
environment, and only one is outlined here. If for some reason
you need to use
another method, consult your Windows documentation. Open Windows
Explorer
or My Computer and select the appropriate drive that refers to
the CompactFlash
card.

4. Press SHIFT F10 to access the context menu.

5. Choose Format from the popup menu.

6. A dialog will be presented with a number of different
properties that can be set on
the CompactFlash card and the one of interest is the one entitled
"File System."
Ensure that FAT is chosen from this combo box and not FAT32.

7. Navigate to the Start or OK button and press ENTER. You
will
be presented with
a warning dialog, explaining that formatting will destroy all
information on the
card. If you are happy with this then you should choose Start or
OK and continue
with the formatting.

The card is now ready to be used in the upgrade process.

Downloading the Product Key.

Before installing the 7.2 upgrade, you need a Product Key.
Download it from our
website as follows:

1. On a PC or your Classic, go to:
http://pulsedata.propagation.net/SDW/User/Login.aspx

2. In the first input field, type your Classic's five digit
serial number. This is in
Braille on the bottom of your Classic and can also be accessed
from within
KeySoft. From the Main Menu, press SPACE with dots 2-4 (READ
with
I on the
QWERTY) and press SPACE twice.

3. The next field is a password field - type frog1.

4. Tab to the "logon" button and press ENTER.

5. On the page that appears, there is a group of radio buttons.
The last one is called
KeySoft 7.2 key. Check this button and then select "download"
which is located
below it.

6. On the page that then appears, follow the link, "Click here
to Download package."
A File Download window appears. Select "Save."

We recommend that you save it to your PC's desktop, or if using
your Classic, to the
root/top level directory (that is, not a subdirectory or folder)
of the upgrade
CompactFlash card. The file is called "KeySoft 7.2 Product Key
(xxxx).exe" where
xxxx is your serial number. Remember, this is not the upgrade
itself, just the Product
Key.

Installing the Product Key.

Now that you have the Product Key file, you can install it.

1. If you haven't yet, copy the Product Key file to the
root/top level directory of the
CompactFlash card used for the upgrade.

2. On your Classic, go to the Utilities Menu, and select the
Application Program
option.

3. At the Drive prompt, select Compact Flash and at the
Directory name prompt,
select the root/top level directory. At the Program Name prompt,
select the file
"KeySoft 7.2 Product Key (xxxx).exe." At the prompt, "Command
line?", press
ENTER.

4. A welcome message will be announced and displayed.

5. Press ENTER.

6. After a brief pause, you will hear a completion message.
Press ENTER again as
advised. You are returned to the Utilities menu. The Product
Key
is now installed
and you can go ahead and install the 7.2 upgrade software.
Downloading the KeySoft upgrade file.

Please follow these instructions to download and copy the KeySoft
7.2 upgrade file to
your previously prepared CompactFlash card:

1. On a PC or your Classic, go to:
http://www.humanware.com/
Click on Support in top navigation
Click on BrailleNote in the left hand navigation, then Software
Select the link called 'Download KeySoft 7.2 Upgrade'
Select the link called "KeySoft 7.2 Classic Download" to download
NK.bin.

2. Save the NK.bin file to a known location on your PC, or if
you are using the
Classic, download it directly onto the CompactFlash card. Ensure
that the NK.bin
file is downloaded at the top level of the card and not in a
folder. The KeySoft 7.2
image file is large and if you are using a modem then this may
take from 1 - 2
hours. The file is around 30 Megabytes in size.

3. If you have downloaded onto a PC you will then need to copy
the NK.bin file
onto the previously prepared CompactFlash card. Ensure that this
file is
downloaded at the top level of the card and not in a folder.

Installing the Upgrade.

1. Ensure that your Classic is switched on, the AC Adapter is
connected, and the
CompactFlash card is inserted in the card slot.

2. Check that there is no card in the PCMCIA slot.

3. Hold down dots 4 and 5 on the Braille keyboard (keys J and K
on the QWERTY),
and press the reset button on the left side of the unit, just
behind the on/off switch.
Keep holding down dots 4 and 5 (keys J and K on the QWERTY) until
the unit
makes a sound, at which point you can release the held down keys.

4. The upgrade process will start and you will hear beeps every
1 - 2 seconds for
around 30 minutes while the unit upgrades.

5. Note that if you have a Braille display, your Classic will
display "Preparing.", in
Grade 1 Braille once the upgrade has started. It will also
display a percentage
indicator that rises from 0 to 100 as the upgrade progresses.
When this number
reaches 100, it will display: "Upgrading.", followed by a
percentage indicator.
You will also notice a single dot which moves up and down as the
upgrade
progresses.

6. At the completion of the beeps, the new version of KeySoft
will automatically
start. Check that Version 7.2 is shown as the version number.

Getting Started with KeySoft 7.2.

To find out what new functionality has been included in the
KeySoft 7.2 release, read
the 'What's New' section of your User Guide which can be accessed
by following
these steps:

1. Go to the User Guide and select the Table of Contents.

2. Go into the Table of Contents and press W for the 'What's
New' section.

3. To open the sub-index of the 'What's New' section, press
ENTER.

4. Information about the new functionality in KeySoft 7.2 has
been divided into sub-
sections within the 'What's New' section. To read the contents
of
a sub-section,
press SPACE repeatedly until you find a sub-section that you want
to read, and
then press ENTER.

Troubleshooting.

If you do not hear anything for 30 seconds or more after starting
the installation:

1. Ensure that the mains plug and AC adapter are inserted
correctly.

2. Check that the CompactFlash card is correctly inserted into
the slot on the back of
the unit.

3. Ensure that there is no "PDIBoot.exe" file on the
CompactFlash card.

4. Restart the upgrade procedure by following the instructions
from the beginning of
the section, 'Installing the Upgrade.'

If you hear a message telling you that you cannot run this
version of KeySoft after
upgrading, then the Product Key has not been installed correctly.
Copy the file
"KeySoft 7.2 Product Key (xxxxx).exe" where xxxxx is your serial
number, to the
CompactFlash card and rename it pdiboot.exe. Place the
CompactFlash card into the
machine and press the reset button on the left side of the unit.
Follow the instructions
and at the end of the process remove the CompactFlash card and
reset for a final time.
KeySoft should now be operational. You must now delete the file
pdiboot.exe from
the CompactFlash card so it is not inadvertently run again.

If you have problems with your email, address book, or planner
after upgrading,
please contact your Distributor.

Hi, first you need to pay for the upgrade. secondary the upgrade
to 6.11 is
probably what you are asking for and this wasn't a downloadable
upgrade. It
as well as upgrading the keysoft it upgraded the windows software
as well so
it can only be done by buying it through humanware and getting it
on a CF
card.

Hope this helps,
From Shaz.
