Ok. What if I want to use labels to sort emails in to stuff I want keymail to download and stuff I don't want keymail to download? I noticed that keymail will download messages from the gmail inbox but won't download from trash. But the inbox and the trash seem to be folders and not labels. It seems like those folders come with the gmail account but you can't make more folders. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Exactly. Once you label an email with all the labels you want, you then archive it to get it out of your inbox. There is no way to label and archive in one step, though. Still, as Grant said, you can use filters which makes things easier, automatically labeling emails based on whom they are from and/or to, the subject, the text, and whether or not there is an attachment (you can mix and match all those). You can
also use filters to tell gMail to skip the inbox for messages,
labeling them and hiding them in one step. This is handy for, say, a list you don't check much. Just open up its label every so often and you have all your messages, but none ever went to the inbox. Filters
are very powerful and handy once you get used to them. As before,
though, you need to be in basic html to get to settings, where you set
all this up.

Hey Jessica,

Labels are analogous to folders in Gmail. You can't have
traditional folders in Gmail, but your labels essentially act
like folders. The only difference is that you can assign an Email
to more than one label at a time. But if you want to use labels
as you would use traditional folders, then simply be sure that no
message is assigned to more than one label.

You can also set up filters so that messages are automatically
assigned to labels based upon certain criteria. For example my
BrailleNote List emails are assigned to a label called
BrailleNote; my Viphone list Emails are assigned to a label
called Viphone, and so on. Then in addition, all those Emails are
assigned to an additional label called Lists, so that I can
quickly access Email from any list. This makes searching for
Emails very easy to, because for example, if you wanted to search for a particular Email but did not want to see any list Emails in
the search results, you could simply enter as your search query,
"sample search -label:lists". The dash lets Gmail know that you
want to exclude something from your search, in this case your
'Lists' label.

Hope this helps,

Grant
