The at sign, at least in American, is dots 4 and 7 (backspace with 4).
To enter this, you must turn on 8 dot braille, which I leave on all
the time anyway to avoid grade 2 mistranslation problems. Hit space-g
to get into uncontracted, then space-2-3-6 for 8 dot braille. You
should now be able to enter the at sign with no problems. This also
helps for capital letters, braces, the underscore, and other
characters that use 8 dots.
