Actually, there is an easier way: go into the planner, insert the top
and bottom markers as needed, choose store block, and specify a file
name - or copy the block to the clipboard and paste it into a file.
Bingo.

No, I was just confused about the references to hidden tricks and
such, but I didn't realize you were just speaking generally here!
