Hi Winona,

Humanware should not erase any of your data during the process of having your Braille display repaired, though you won't automatically have your Emails and other settings on your loaner Apex. For example, just because you enter in your Email server settings does not mean you will have all those old Emails you already downloaded, the drafts you're working on, and so forth!

Your best bet is to backup your Apex before sending it in, and it's super easy: insert a flash drive or an SD card, hit U from the Main Menu for Utilities, hit B for the backup and restore menu, hit another B to backup, and press ENTER twice to confirm that you want to back up your BrailleNote's flash disk, and that you're going to backup all folders. You'll be asked where you want to store the backup; select the removable drive you just inserted and accept the default folder offered. Your backup is now underway.

When the backup completes, insert that same removable drive on your loaner Apex. Head to Utilities and the backup and restore option as before, but this time press R for restore. Select your removable drive, and the folder on which the backup was stored, when prompted. When asked, press ENTER to confirm that you want to restore to the flash disk, and then press A for all if you're asked to replace files. After a while the process will complete, and you'll be all set.

When you get your own Apex back, do the same process, but in reverse: back up the data from the loaner, and restore it to your own machine.

Let us know if you need any more details on this, and wow, do I envy you by the way! When I was in grade school I was never offered spare units while mine was being repaired. :)

Hi List,

My vision teacher is going to send in my Apex to get the braille
display fixed.  She has a spare Apex that she's going to let me
use while my Apex is being repared.  I have a question.  When I
reccfigure all the setting (email, chat, internet, etc.), will I
have everything back like it was before I gave my vision teacher
my Apex? Like will all my emails that are in my inbox now be
there when I reconfigure the email settings? Will all my chat
contacts still be there when I reconfigure my chat settings? and
etc.
