But what do I do if I'm asked to send a file which shows all my work including the brailling and correct layout formattting. I can't just send a kwb file because the grader wouldn't have a braillenote to emboss it to check my work.

TXT files would work the same way. Nothing is preserved except text, spacing, and new line characters. This means you should easily be able to make your BRF files the way you want them to appear, but you will have a tough time modifying them once they're saved; best to keep a KWB copy for those purposes. This is normal behaviour on any machine.
