Well, a macbook or iOS device paired with a braille display seems to be a good 
solution for those solid in their braille skills. I only say that because there 
are sometimes odd grade 2 translation problems you have to know about and be 
ready to deal with, so those learning braille may not want to do this. Still, I 
find myself using my bn only for wordprocessing, the calculator, and the book 
reader, and the Braille Edge has those built into it (and is $2700 for 40 
cells). Pair that with a mainstream solution and you have quite the team for 
getting things done.
