Josh, the cards are the same. I thought at one time that the slot in the back held those little cards that you see in digetal cameras but the only difference is that if you want to put a compacked flash in the side, you need an adapter. The bn indentifys whatever you put in the side, whether it's the plug on your disk drive or a flash card or a microdrive as "storage card" and what you put in the back as "compacked flash." hth
