Yes, I think you typed the phone number entry correctly. The pound or hash
is the number sign, SHIFT with 3, and on your display, you will see two number
signs. The first is the number sign you typed, while the second is the Braille
number sign.
But I cannot tell you how the initial string will factor in, and I suggest
that you ask the guy who gave it to you in the first place. Tell him what
fields are available to you in the Directory of Services, and hopefully he will
know where that initial string should be entered.
The message "No carrier" may have something to do with either the "Phone
number" field entry or the answer to the "Wait for dial tone" prompt. This is
just my interpretation which may well be wrong but I'm throwing it in anyway.
