Hi. I have seen this topic discussed here, but have never seen a complete explanation or fix. Sometimes, when I turn on my BN, the Braille display is either jibberish or blank. Speech works just fine. Often, but not always, if I turn speech off I get the message "Braille display is not available", at which time I often, but not always find that a 1-2-3 reset fixes the problem. Note, my rom-burned version is V4.01 build 1988.

Sometimes, the display will say something like "kain menu", i.e. dot four is missing. Exercising the braille display works fine, e.g. no sticky dot. After ending the exercising, the display still will say "kain menu". Sometimes, only part of the display is jibberish, e.g. columns right of 20 are ok, or columns on the left are ok with right columns containing full cells. I have also noticed, though this may be random rather than a correlated event, that the problem happens less often with storage cards removed.

If it's hardware, why can it often be fixed with 1-2-3 resets? The problem existed before, but has gotten worse since installing V5.1. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Doug Martin
