Hi, I have a BT 32, which I have had for some 2 years. I have been watching, avidly, the responses from those who have the GPS functionality on their bns, on this list. I am interested in using the GPS but am coming, quickly, to the conclusion that availing myself of this via the bn is not the best way to go. I don't wish to start a flaming war but, also, don't wish and cannot afford to make a major error in my purchase. I have three main areas of disquiet.
1. I note that any GPS functionality bought via the bn is serialized to my unit. Why is this? Surely if I buy a package I should be free to use it as suits me and, if I chose, could be sold on, as with any other such package? 2. It seems that having bought my GPS package from PDI I am tied to the maps provided via that package, whereas, other users of the GPS system can shop around and buy maps most suited to their environment. Why is this? One might almost think that PDI were, once again, fostering the "captive market" principle. 3. I have not experienced the use of the GPS with my bn as I live in Ireland and my nearest dealer is based in the UK. So, I have to use my imagination and cannot think that, ergonomically speaking, I could use my bn while on the move, especially in crowded places. Therefore, I am considering an alternative, such as the Victor Trekker. This way, at least, I should not be toting around a highly expensive peace of equipment, open to the weather and other damage. Would anybody like to comment on any of these concerns of mine? I would be very grateful for feed-back. Thanks, Sandy.
