Yes this has also been my experiences.

Sometimes pushing the connection in again will sometimes work, but it does
sometimes take a bit of fiddling about..

It shouldn't be, I usually hear mine give a little whir when I plug it into
the bn, but be sure you plug the disk drive in before you connect it to the
bn, or it can really screw up the bn and it will say that it can't find the
drive when you put it in the next time.
Sometimes you really need to do a lot of reseting before you can finally fix
it.
