Lisa, to answer your questions, here goes:   can the Scannar'r tell the user if 
the paper is blank?  Yes! It says no text recognised.  Also does the Scannar'r 
do okay with page orientation like does it tell you if you put the paper in 
up-side-down? It does not matter if your pages are upside down or if the top of 
the page (or paper) is to the left or right or top or bottom of the glass on 
which the paper is laid.  Lisa, feel free to email me off list if it is of any
