Uh-oh, Paul, that's a dangerous problem. Having a corrupted Pronunciation
Dictionary may lead to the problem where the BN will not reboot, and this will
give it a sure ticket back to PDI, <wince>.

Revert first to the KeySoft version in ROM by pressing RESET while holding down
dots 1-2-3 (F-D-S) until you hear the BN talking again.

Next, create a text (KeyWord type) document in the Flash Disk, in a folder
where you keep your files, for instance. At the top of the file, enter the
Block Commands Menu (SPACE with B or CTRL with B). Type I to insert a file.
Choose the Flash Disk and Dictionaries folder as the source of the file to be
inserted.
Select the Pronunciation Dictionary file by hitting ENTER on it. Once the
contents of that file has been inserted into the text document you've inserted,
exit that file.

Go into the File Manager and using the Erase File option, delete the
Pronunciation Dictionary file in the Dictionaries folder of the Flash Disk.
It's corrupted (how? I don't know), and you must reconstruct it in the
Utilities Menu.
Switching back and forth from that menu to the text document in KeyWord
containing your dictionary entries, add the new entries. The BN will create a
new and empty Pronunciation Dictionary file. No, you cannot just copy paste
the file contents to that new one.

Remember that even though the manual does not say so, and other stubborn users
on this list who have no experience with corrupted pronunciation dictionary
files insist that there is no limit to the number of entries you can make,
there ABSOLUTELY is a limit that cannot easily be defined because it depends on
the number of characters (how long, that is) the entries have. Keep it to no
more than 120 entries, and add only the words that you OFTEN encounter being
misread, and not just any word that gets mispronounced.

When you're done, press RESET to get the new upgrade running, or just reinstall
it if you want.

HTH,
Roselle
