I have a sprint pcs account with a sanyo 4500 phone, I've used it as a
modem through the serial port with the connection cable purchased
through the springt website. I was charged data connection; very
expensive. 
I'd be curious to know from Chris G. if there is a plan which may
include some data phone usage minutes.

i have sprint pcs, i have been using my phone as a modem for years.
i don't have an ir port, i just use the good old serial cable that i
purchiced for my phone.
when i travel i use the phone all of the time.
