Hi all,

I think I can safely say that there has been, recent conversation regarding
the maintaining of a compatible printer list. One of the main problems is
that printer manufacturers release a large number of printers on the market
and there would be a large amount of testing needed to keep the list right
up to date. Obviously, one of the consequences of keeping such a list up to
date would be that a large amount of valuable time would be taken away from
our internal software testers in testing new KeySoft releases, which would
reflect on the quality of the end product.

John, it is not true that we can only recommend one printer. Having said
this, there has been no testing on some of the latest printers owing to the
explanation above. In that respect, if you are looking for a relatively new
printer, short of trying it out, I would recommend that you communicate with
other BrailleNote users to see what their thoughts are, or even just to get
a general idea of just what is being used in the way of printers.

One of the things people want to look out for when deciding on what printer
to purchase, is for anything in the printer specifications that suggest that
the printer is only Windows compatible. If the printer is only Windows
compatible, I'm afraid it won't work with the BrailleNote. There is no
reason why, if the printer you are looking at buying doesn't just support
Windows, you couldn't ask the computer store whether you could "try before
you buy". I guess the worst they can say is no!

Finally, there are often similarities in printer drivers that have
originated from the same printer manufacturer. For example, I remember that
(from a Windows perspective), the drivers for the HP DeskJet 610C would work
with the HP DeskJet 690C. In other words, if your printer model isn't
mentioned specifically in the BrailleNote printer list, choose the closest
printer to it. Remember, you can try using the standard printer drivers if
the drivers from your manufacturer don't work with your printer, or the
manufacturer of your printer isn't listed in the list of compatible printers
in the printer setup menu. However. I have to add at this point that in our
experience, all HP printers that have supported other operating systems
apart from Windows, have worked with the BrailleNote, using the generic HP
driver that we provide.
