Hello List:

I'd like to report a few issues with the Voice Note QT. I received the unit
last October with 4.02 but the keysoft5.0 was on the flash disk which I finally
did get burned in to rom which is another story but a very happy and satisfied
ending.

Around the beginning of November while using the Book Reader it would either
say top of document or just blank lines, or a bunch of alpha/numeric
charicters. Dean Jackson asked me to send the keysoft.ksd file to him which
then I was advised to call PDI technical support and there I was told to talk
with Pete De Vesto. After all was said and done, through Pete's emails, I was
advised by using Active Sync to whipe the flash disk clean and this would
restore the Book Reader which it did after doing a hard reset.

Late last week the Book Reader went south again but instead of whiping the
flash disk, I deleted the keysoft.ksd file, a hard reset and wala, things got
back to normal again. To Dean and Pete especially Pete you and I talked about
which file the Book Reader saves the information and I did find out it's the
keysoft.ksd file which last November we had no idea where it was.

Still on the Book Reader, a friend of mine who also has the Voice Note QT said
she was reading a book, and the battery was at 0 then of course got the
critical battery warning and the unit shut down which one would expect.
However when she plugged it in, after removing the card before charging, when
she turned the unit on after the full charge, the complete book was in memory,
and when she did an escape to get out of the book something about missing flash
disk. She then did a reset and all was well again.

I guess my reasons for bringing these issues to the list is besides of making
the planner more like people want also address the unit's stability. I'd like
to see improvements in the file manager such as when looking at a directory how
many files are in the directory, being able to go in the directory selecting
files out of sequence for protecting etc.

My friend did give me a good idea which I thought was a greate one making a
copy of the keysoft.ksd file and if the reader goes south again, copy it from
the backup over-writing the one on the unit.

These are just small issues I believe but I'd hate to see PDI just making bells
and whistles in the future. I think those ideas and improvements to the
planner are good ones but don't put your eggs all in one basket.

Just my thoughts and sorry for taking up so much time. smile

John
