HI Jonathan, I already figured that one out via trial and error. <grin>
So I am using the connect modem to infrared under the modem option. Cingular gave me a code of: *99***n# where n is a number, 1 2 or 3 which apparently specifies a port. The tech person wasn't sure which one would work, but I seem to be getting a response from 1 at the moment. Not sure what the previous 3 asterisks are unless they're parameters that should remain unchanged. Anyway, when I use the sequence including the 1, the phone says "connected'" and the bn changes from "dialing" to connected. Then to logon and speech says logon successful, and then it goes to "disconnected". All this happens very rapidly so I'm a bit leary of the truthfulness of the prompts. It just seems to fast to me. I've tried changing log onto network from no to yes and no difference. I'm wondering if I need to set up some special logon name and password somewhere on Cingular, but I wouldn't think it would be necessary. But, I do appear to be making the actual connection, it's just failing for some reason. Cingular has a disabilities center and I think I'm going to call them, explain what I'm trying to do and the problems I'm having, and see if they can possibly connect me to a tech who may be more knowledgable in this area. I feel as though I'm part way there and just need to perform a bit more magic. As always, any suggestions would be very much appreciated. Someone mentioned authentication, but that's really a different issue a bit further down the road. Finally, I'm also wondering if they don't have some sort of firewall which might be one reason why they want you to connect using their software. There has to be a way to do this though. What are you doing to turn the infra-red port in your phone on before you try to connect it with the BrailleNote? There are two settings on the phone, one will work, the other will not. If you go into your phone's menu and choose connectivity, and then infra-red, that won't do it. What you need to do is go into the connectivity menu, choose modem, and then the infra-red option from undre modem. Is this what you are doing?
