Riana,

If that's the case, then the manual should mention the compatibility mode in
Chapter 1, not section 14.7.2. Considering that the manual mentions the Block
Commands Menu in section 7.5, the user whose BN has compatibility mode turned
on upon receiving the unit would be confused as to why the command SPACE with B
doesn't take him/her into the Block Commands Menu.

This is why, ideally, the compatibility mode should be turned off by default
for consistency with the User's Manual. And since I observe, no matter if
users on this list would deny it, many people do not read the manual further
than chapter 5, some only reach chapter 3, then skip to chapter 11 and 12 for
e-mail and browser, which is very unfortunate because they end up getting
confused as to how other functions should work, believing they can figure it
out themselves without reading the manual first.

That's just my comment, and many posts here will prove that, so I think PDI
should put in the first five chapters everything that needs to be learned, or
at least list down in chapter 1 that also comes in Braille the most important
sections on topics that users on this list ask about when the explanation is
already in the manual. A few people have suggested off list that an FAQ be set
up to spare the list for repetitions of questions that are already answered by
the manual, but what will guarantee that they would read the FAQ if they cannot
even find time to read the manual before swimming into the deep end, so to
speak?

Oops, sorry, I digressed, these last comments are not directed to anyone in
particular, and not aimed at those who asked about the Compatibility Mode. I
need to get a bite now, I guess, <grin>. Thanks for pointing that one out,
Riana.

Regards,
Roselle
