Hi Josh,

Unplug your ethernet cable from the BN's network interface, thus breaking
the ActiveSync connection. You probably need to soft reset the
BrailleNote (press reset with nothing held down) before reusing it with
ActiveSync on the ethernet interface again. Connect the loose end of the
cable to your school's network outlet. On the PC, use this command, as
from the run dialog:
ipconfig /renew
You should be internet enabled once again.
I may as well add that this situation complicates considerably the success
possibilities with which you will find yourself connecting to ActiveSync.
Since your school network is likely using DHCP, you are relying on the
BrailleNote to work only because the autoconfiguration address set during
a DHCP release should be the same, unless you really intend to configure
and reconfigure the BN again and again with the bnipconfig utility. In
the unlikely but possible event of this not being so, you will find
ActiveSync not working. In summary - if you are experimenting and only
experimenting, then this hopeful technique should serve you well. If, on
the other hand, you intend to make ActiveSync over ethernet a permanent
habit, you should consider strongly either:
A) purchasing an additional ethernet interface to be slotted into your PC,
or
B) Getting used to altering IP configuration parameters on your existing
interface in the case that you are either connected to your school or your
BrailleNote. Doing that takes some knowledge of how networks work -
though I am willing to help, it complicates things considerably.
I strongly encourage the former, for two reasons - first, you will not
trouble system administrators by trying to claim address space that is not
rightfully yours by failing to reconfigure your interface when you connect
back to the network, and - more importantly - with two ethernet interfaces
you can use your PC to gateway IP traffic from your BN out onto the
network, meaning in essence that both PC and BN can share the same network
connection at once (provided the PC is switched on).
Cheers,
Sabahattin
