Hi Josh,

First of all: was the PC IP address in the same netmask as the BN IP
address? What this means, as I intend you to understand, is, were the
first three numbers of the IP address the same in both addresses? The
first three numbers must be the same, only the fourth number must be
different. If so, great. Proceed to step 2. If not: go back to start.

You may well be correct. Before you begin the bnipconfig program to
configure the BN over the serial port, connect the two computers together
with ethernet, and - on the PC - run this command in the run dialog box:
ipconfig /release
Now, begin bnipconfig and proceed as I showed you. Equally, when you
disconnect from the school network and begin to use the BN with your PC,
run this command before you begin to establish the ActiveStink connection.

With regard to the errors - as they correctly say, you're probably pulling
the network connection apart prematurely. Try to follow all instructions
I have given, and give it another whirl. Ethernet is arguably worth it -
it's even faster than USB 1.1, and I'd do ethernet over serial any day. I
have plugged my BN into my home network just as I do other components, and
it works brilliantly and fast, especially since the serial cable can then
go to any computer which needs a braille display at any particular time -
in fact, the usual candidate for a braille display is a Linux box which
doesn't yet have networking support.
Cheers,
