Regarding the deletion of email, what I do delete each message into the trash as I go. This can sometimes take a while for the delete of each message, especially if I have much over 100 messages. After I've read some of them, I exit email and empty the trash. When I start reading email again, I don't necessarily check for new messages, but just start reading where I left off before. Quite often, the delete process is much faster once I've gotten rid of some of those messages. Also, a periodic freeing of database space can help speed things up to. I haven't ever tried just marking messages as I go, so really can't comment on the speed of deleting under that circumstance.

He said 20 minutes for a few hundred messages. I tried this recently and it is more like two hours or more. I deleted 250 messages and that is how long it took. I find that a real flaw in the bn if you get a lot of messages. It probably would have been better if I had removed each individual mail to the trash rather than marking them all after reading and then deleting. but if you are deleting lots of e-mail messages, be prepared to be very very patient.
