Ah Maria, so you are another young computer wiz. Nice to have you on the

[Braillenote] Re: Thanks, I've got KS 5

Hi Donna and All,
In reply to one of your previous emails, thanks a lot for the compliments.
Also thanks to Jim Taylor for his kind words. In answer to your
question, I don't work for the company. I'm 15, and I've had my
BrailleNote for almost a year, but I've had to teach myself everything.
The special education department of my high school didn't feel it was
necessary for me to have anything above a Braille n Speak, and since I
felt I needed something much more advanced to continue my studies, my
family was able to help me acquire my BN. It's great to have people who
are supportive of your dreams despite your disability. Anyway, my
appologies for not including the bit about the Product Key; sorry it gave
you problems. I read in the Release Notes for KeySoft 5 that it doesn't
require a product key (it can also be referred sz a Security Key, or the
BN uses the prompt "Comcand Line?" when it queries one). Most of the
programs for the BN don't require one, but if they do, there will be a
specific reference in the documentation for the program (user guide,
readme, release notes, etc.) If you experience any problems with KeySoft 5
now, which you shouldn't, you can just reinstall, and press Enter on the
"Command Line?" prompt without entering anything. The reason this prompt
exists in the first place is because certain products need the command to
"unlock" the product. Because of copyright protection, the program is
given a unique signature when you receive it that allows it only to run on
your unit (this is why your Serial Number is required when requesting
programs for the BN); sometimes this key is needed to allow the software
to work. With KeySoft (and also the GPS software) already have this
signature built in when you provide your serial number, so the software is
automatically unlocked when it's installed on the unit with the same
serial number. If you tried to run it on another unit, however, it
wouldn't work. If you ever need to enter a Product Key on a program after
installation (for example, you left the "Command Line?" prompt blank
during installation because you didn't know the correct information, and
now the product isn't working, and you've found a Key in its
documentation)), you don't have to re-install. You can go to the
Utilities Menu and then the Key Management menu. The first item here,
"Enter a New Product Key", allows you to do just that. In the User Guide,
there's information in the chapter about the Utilities Menu and in the
last section of the chapter entitled "Key Management". Hope this helps.
Maria
