Hi, This is in response to an old post from Jane Jordan, that is already buried deep in my Inbox so I cannot reply to the original post. Anyway, I just remembered her question and would like to answer that now, before I forget again <sheepish grin>, and to post it for others who may also be interested to know.
She was asking if there was a way to have e-mail headers (From, To, CC, Subject and Sending Time&Date fields) displayed in grade 2 Braille, instead of the default of computer Braille. The answer to that is yes (duh!, of course it's yes, Roselle, you wouldn't be posting this if there wasn't, right?). Go into Keyword (ENTER with BACKSPACE with W or FUNCTION with 4), select the Flash Disk as the drive and Keymail as the folder. At the file name prompt, press SPACE with X (READ with X) to view all file types. Navigate to the file Email Folders and hit ENTER to open it. This is the database definition file for the e-mail database, so be careful not to change anything other than what I instruct you to do, unless of course you've altered this file before and you're confident that you know what you're doing. Look for the line describing the field whose entry you wish to be displayed in grade 2 Braille. These are: 3588, header, G0, "To" 3587, header, G0, "CC" 55, header, G0, "Subject" 65002, G0, "Name index" 65007, header, G0, "Date" Notice that they all have G0 in them. This is the Braille grade indicator for that field. If you change this to G2, then the field entry will be displayed in contracted (grade 2) Braille. If you change it to G1, then the field entry will be displayed in uncontracted (grade 1) Braille. Go ahead and change the Braille grade indicator for whichever header you wish to be displayed in contracted Braille. Note that if you do this for the Name-Index, To and CC fields, the Duxbury Braille Translator will show the < and > signs surrounding e-mail addresses as the words less-than and greater-than respectively. It will also show the @ sign as the word at. If this is OK with you, then you can change the Braille grade indicator for these fields. I recommend that you change the Braille grade in which subject headers are displayed. Not only does it make this header look better, but also shortens the displayed form. Further, even if you see a From field line there, 65005, header, G0, "From" this is not the one you should change because the From header in Keymail is controlled by the Name-Index field line in the definition file. When you're done making those changes, press SPACE with E or Z (ESCAPE) to exit and save the changes. Now go into Keymail (ENTER with BACKSPACE with E or FUNCTION with 8) and open the Inbox (press ENTER twice to skip the "Check for new e-mail?" prompt). Normally, you should be able to open the folder right away, as usual. But if the BN says or displays, "Please wait" or does not say anything and the display does not change, DO NOT PANIC. It is only updating the database with the changes you've made to the definition file. Whatever happens, do NOT interrupt this by resetting, turning off the unit, or letting the batteries go flat. The length of time you have to wait will depend on how large your database file is. Your patience will soon pay off and you will be placed on the last e-mail your cursor was on before exiting the Inbox, and you can SPACE through the headers to see the effect of the change. HTH, Roselle
