Hi, Roselle. Yes. I decided to just pay for the 48 mb. I knew it was high
priced, but I figured it was worth it.
I guess what I was concerned about is that the address list, key plan, key
mail and such are all on the flash disk with no way that I know of
defaulting them to a cf card. I still have 37 mb left on my flash disk, so
have plenty of room, but if I would have had only the 16 mb, I would be
getting a little cramped for space right about now. Of course, I wouldn't
be storing the ten books I have on my flash disk. I would have put them
onto a cd card so that would free up a lot of that 6 mb.
I think having that 48 mb is nice. I'd like to see even more memory be made
available.

Hi Paul,
I know this reply is a bit late but I was just reminded of this one as I
was clearing out some stuff from my Inbox. You wrote:
"There is no way that I know of to direct all of the bn files to a storage
disk rather than the flash disk. E-mail, web, and keysoft are all placed
onto the flash disk by default. I don't think I have an unnecessarily
large amount of things on my flash disk. I don't even have any e-mail
there and I am already at 36mb. So, I have already used 12 mb leaving
myself only 4mb for e-mail, web pages, and work space."
I don't quite understand what you mean by this. When you create a file in
Keyword, at the folder name prompt, you can hit BACKSPACE to select a
different drive and thus place the file you will create on a cf card. I
believe quite a number of users do this and so their files are all on the
cf card, not eating up the space in the Flash Disk. As for webpages, you
can also save them to a cf card by pressing BACKSPACE to get to the drive
prompt after pressing CTRL with S.
If you mean the cookies, browser history and temporary internet files,
then they are not in the Flash Disk but the Keysoft Systems Disk. Cookies
and browser history do not take up much space. Temporary internet files
do, but they can be erased using the option for that in the Internet
Options Menu, or you lose them through a RESET with dots 4-5-6 held down.
As for e-mails, the database is in the Flash Disk, so that will be the
problem for units with just 16 MB flash. However, with that type of
database technology, it's not really recommendable to have an e-mail
database file greater than 5 MB in size because that's when Keymail starts
to perform sluggishly. Thus, one has to save e-mails he wishes to store
as text files somewhere else like a cf card.
Probably this week, I will share a convenient way of doing this, since
many have complained about the ineffective way of saving e-mails as files
to a cf card one by one. I've found a quick way of doing that, that works
about a second per e-mail of average length, but I just have not had the
time and motivation to sit down and write about it.
Finally, if you mean the BN's system files, most are in the Keysoft
Systems Disk, so again the 48 MB Flash memory has nothing to do with
this. But in no way am I saying that there is no benefit in upgrading to
48 MB because I have a speculation that it affects a certain operation,
and if you have been around to see my posts about this before, then you'll
know what I mean. Otherwise, too bad, coz I don't want to repeat it since
it's just a theory of mine. BTW, I do have the 48 MB onboard memory and I
think it's spared me from some headaches others here are unfortunate to
encounter. Unlike you though, I didn't decide to pay for it because I
received my BN as a donation and it already had 48 megs. Yet if the
situation had been different, I'm not sure if I would have opted for it.
Roselle
