Hi. I asked about avant go a few months ago. My wife has it for her palm
pilot and it is pretty neat. I have looked at their web site. They have
tons of magazines and interesting groups there.
The bn has its stability and ease of use, but I would sure like to see it
do some of the things the new packmate can do such as wireless networking,
using programs like messenger and real audio, audible support, etc. I'd
like to see a newer version of windows ce and a newer version of internet
explorer.
I'd like to see a faster processor and maybe USB capability as well.
Also would like to see a replaceable battery; not a clip on like the
packmate tried; perhaps a compartment you'd have to unscrew from the bottom
of the unit.
Also, more onboard memory.

Anne gave me a little bit of a scolding on this, because it could lead

I do wonder though, if this windows ce program doesn't support wireless,
(which most pdas have now and have had for a while), why don't we have an
upgraded windows and, if necessary, an upgrade in the cpu?
I got my bn when it was the top of the top among note takers.
The other note taker I had tried briefly was the Braille Light, but I
didn't like the speech on it.
Now, pdi has some competition from Freedom Scientific among others, and F
S has it's Pac mate with all these features.
Why are we using an outdated processor and an outdated windows program
which seems not to allow open features?
I'm not sure the Pac Mate is totally as secure as the bn in regards to
data storage, it seems that when you do a hard reset on it you lose
everything, but some flash memory will prevent that and if you back up,
you can get it back.
I love the bn's ease of operation, but think we need a faster processor,
such as the Intel scale 400 mz and perhaps an updated version of Windows
that will allow open platform capabilities, such as being able to use
off-the-shelf technology.
Most pdas have this now, so you can't say "buy a laptop.
My wife's pda has wireless as well as the ability to, through activesync,
download things like Avant Go.
I kind of feel that this unit is outdated.
I am not trying to put down anyone, simply asking a question and stating
some facts.
