Another possible alternative might be to have some type of adaptor which will hook to a say 9-volt battery which could be plugged in on an emergency or temporary basis. Years and years ago, Blazie had such a thing for the Braille N Speak and Braille Lite and it worked great for a temporary energy supply. If the battery ran down, you just changed batteries.
