No, you can plug in external speakers to the braillenote or voicenote, but you would be wise to have those speakers powered, since the braillenote or voicenote does not have that much power to push non powered external spekars. I use external speakers all the time when I am demoing the products to groups of people, so they all can hear what the PDA is saying.
