Hi folks and particularly PDI staff,
I'm subscribed to the gps talk list. And over there, I just saw a message from
the engineer who is the developer of the BN/vn gps. In response to a question
about gps 3 and the new PK, he said that this reference to
the pk on the gpstalk list was the first he'd heard of this new development.
NObody from PDI had been in contact with him about any new development or
upgrade, so he couldn't say whether the gps would run on
the pk. I know Johnathan responded to an earlier note stating that if gps isn't
running on the pk when its first released, they hope it will be soon
thereafter. I'm concerned, however, because this scenario sounds just
like what happened with the PackMate and Visuaid, where FS didn't keep them in
the loop, and owners of the newer version of that pda are still waiting for gps
accessibility. I understand that companies need to be
careful about talking about plans. But it does seem unfortunate, to put it
mildly, that the supplier of gps wasn't kept in the loop, so they could plan
and make sure the gps will be compatible with the new PDI upgrades
and products. the question was asked about a possible blue tooth receiver,
since the PK will be blue tooth compatible. But the engineer stated that the
new gps 3 won't have any blue tooth possibility, since PDI
hadn't informed him about the blue tooth connectivity of the new device. Maybe
they'll get it together for version 4. But that probably means another year or
so. Seems like that could have been avoided with better
and more timely communication between business partners.
