Hi Johnathan,
I understand why you want to help people get the most out of their present
hardware, not upgrade the year after the initial release, leaving customers
with a heavy tab if they want to keep current with the future
upgrades of their pda. But as somebody who is still on the fence when it comes
to whether or not I will get a pda, and as one who is highly unlikely to be
able to justify the expenditure of several thousands of dollars
for the PK, I'm a tad chagrinned that there are hardware limitations with the
present crop of braillenote Voicenote devices which preclude implementation of
some of the new features. You mentioned specifically
playing media simultaneously with doing another task, as well as the lack of
stereo audio capabilities that the bn/vn will not enjoy. It also seems to me
that the slot compliment on the vn/bn, with the pcm cia and one
flash, instead of two flash, is less useful and will become more so as time
passes. So I guess I'm left wondering about the medium term future, whether you
expect the present bn/vn in its present hardware
configuration to keep on being produced, which would essentially mean that
those of us who couldn't afford or really didn't need braille would be stuck in
a lesser track, if you will, because of the hardware limitations
imposed by the older unit's processor and configuration. You guys have done a
really good job in managing to pack a lot of new features onto the existing
platform. But a time must come when you'll need to move to a
more up-to-date one, faster processor, different slot compliment, more memory,
etc, or only PK users will be able to take advantage of innovations down the
line, I fear.
Mary
