I've had them take it out of the case once--that was when I was using the BN my office bought me and it had the new case, designed to fit the BN. They even put it back in the case, but I still had to get everything back properly and close all the little openings and the snaps on the side. my personal BN has the old case. I just unzip it, when I give it to security and let them look away at the pocket on top and anything I might have stashed under the braille note. I sometimes store mail under it, especially if I was carrying it and happened to check my mail. then I forget I did that and wonder what happened to the mail!
