Hi Sue,

Yes, you should definitely give it a full charge before any known long
absence from using the braillenote. The battery will drain even if the unit
is left off. Make sure you remove any compactflash cards, because the
insertion of these devices make the battery drain a bit faster. Also, be
aware that if the battery goes completely flat, you probably will lose all
files stored on the flash disk. so, make sure you make backups of some sort
if there is a possibility that your battery will go completely flat.

A better alternative would be to try and find some outlet where you could
leave the unit plugged in, if you do not plan on using it. HTH, Laura
