Hi all,

When quotingmessages, it is best to either do one of two things. One,
do not quote at all, paraphrase the previous message. Or, two, quote
a few lines of the message, either at top or bottom to cue folks as to
what's going on. What I hate, above everything else are people who
put their message at the top of an email, then they leave the whole
message below, the whole message, including headers and footers.
Sometimes there are four or five messages piggybacked onto a one or
two line response at the top. This is lazy, selfish, inconsiderate
and in my mind boorish!

There are people on email lists, especially those in developing
countries who have to pay by the byte or by the minute for their
online time! People in Australia do this too! The more quoted
garbage you leave in your messages the more bytes these people have to
download; more time, more bytes. Maybe if you guys were charged by
the byte or by the minute you'd quit over-quoting!!

Over-quoting makes the archives of a list like this, especially a list
like this impossible to search because you're having to wade through
tons of garbage to find what you want.

It doesn't matter to me whether the quoted text is at the top or the
bottom so long as it is short, sweet, and actually pertains to the
comments made!

As one of my friends says, "Now, I'll get off my soap box. You know,
we really do need a different kind of soap!"
