Well, guess I was fortunate regarding the dial-up modem, not noticing Dean's
recommendation from before. For, what with already having the Socket CF
modem, I put that in the PK and it was recognized right away. It said card
inserted when I put it in the unit, and then it was readily visible as one
of my choices of ways to connect when I went to set up the connection. The
only problem I had, I caused myself. For, wanting to put in my entire
dial-up number in case I want to use that modem when away from home, I can
never seem to remember whether or not to put the one in front of the number.
So, it took me two tries to find out that I did indeed need the one.

Tina,
Dean jackson recommended the Pretec modem for dialup. I have that and I
have an ambicom for wireless connection. I've used both and the Ambicom I
have connected to a Starbucks public hot spot. I didn't do a thing. I was
so shocked to be connected! <grin> I was low on battery power at the time
as well. I've not done anything else since.
