Dear List,

I have just purchased a second cf card and had trouble inserting it
correctly into the slot at the back of my vn. I got it in, but the unit
wouldn't recognise it. As it was mentioned by PDI that both type I and
II cf cards should work, I asked a sighted person to compare the two and
get the new one inserted correctly, but also without force. After a
minute or so, she got it right and said that there are certain very
small pins in the slot, wich must go exactly into the fine perforations
on the card and which can obviously not be traced with one's finger
while inserting the card which fact one didn't even have to be aware of
with the older pretech card, as it fitted and dislodged easily.
Although it works, it is such an effort to get the new Sandisk one
correctly inserted and out again, I am worried that one could damage
either the card or the slot in the process.

It's definitely impractical to struggle with this touch wood insertion
every time you have switched on the unit and the cautious and difficult
removal each time after the unit has been switched off, to prevent data
loss, as suggested by Jonothan. PDI should be aware of this and rectify
the problem, either by fixing the bug of involuntary/sporadic formatting
when the unit is switched on, or by improving the relevant slot to
facilitate the necessary mobility.

Regards

Riana
