Hi Jonathan,
Ok, I guess I'm trying to understand what are the limitations imposed by the
hardware configurations and those which will be lifted when the new os is in
place. For instance, it seems pretty clear that stereo audio is a
hardware limitation, as is the lack of usb and presence of less commonly used
ports, such as the serial port. Further, I would guess that the slow processor
contributes to sluggishness of operation and possibly to some
of the gps crashes that people like John Matiolli have referred to, although I
think his excellent report was sent to the gps list and not this one. But for
all I know, the improved os may help this sluggishness issue or
make for greater stability. I know there is a long-standing issue with file
corruption when editing/validating books for bookshare, but I'm obviously not
aware of whether that is caused by a hardware limitation or some
underlying problem in KeySoft that will be fixed with the new upgrade, or
whether there is an interaction with the old os which contributes to it and
will be alleviated when the new upgrade comes out. Similarly, I don't
know if the inability to do more than one task at once with the present bn/vn
product is a limitation of hardware or os/software, although I suspect the
later, because I thought you said that the pk is going to have the
ability to simultaneously listen to audio files while performing other tasks.
When wireless becomes available with the new upgrade, I'm guessing that people
would appreciate being able to have their email active in the
background while they do other tasks. but I have no clue whether that is a
problem that can only be solved with a hardware upgrade, e.g. if the present
processor is too slow to make running more than one app too
much of a burden on the system.
I realize you are in the midst of trying to introduce a new product and get
this big upgrade out the door. I bring up these examples merely as
illustrations of the sorts of things I personally would want to do with a
device
of this type. And I'd rather be able to do all this stuff efficiently and
smoothly, even if that meant the hardware required an upgrade, rather than to
limp along unable to do some things and experiencing instability and/or
sluggishness, because I'm trying to operate a truck on a motor cycle engine.
<smile>
