Hi. In my opinion, you're much better off just going with the 16 mb of internal memory and adding memory cards separately. These cards are portable and very inexpensive. You could probably get 512 MB on a card for the money it costs to go to 48 MB internally ... someone can correct that if I'm mistaken.Chris At 03:14 PM 6/13/2004, you wrote:Hi again All When purchasing the BrailleNote, should one go with the standard 16 Megs of user storage, or should one upgrade to the 48 Megs? Hi, Chris. You could actually buy a 1 gb card for less than it costs to
upgrade to the 48 mb chip. If you do get the 48 mb upgrade, your battery
will last a little longer than if you use flash cards. You could also get a
5 gb microdrive if they are still available, but they also drain the
battery faster.
I just wish that for that 425 dollars we could have gotten 64 or 128 mb
instead of 48. I really don't think it cost PDI that much for that chip,
but they are the only game in town; so if you want the 48 mb, you pay their
price. I do hope that if more memory is ever made available that those of
us who spent 425 dollars for a 48 mb chip will be given consideration. I
bought the upgrade and I am not sorry I did, but there just is no way that
that chip cost that much. and if it did, it's poor circuit design to have
to use a specialized chip when one could have used a mainstream one.
If I had it to do over again, I'd still buy the 48 mb chip. I like having
the memory right there and I have never had data loss as some people seem
to have who are using flash cards. For those people who have had data loss
with their 16 mb flash disk, again, I have never had this problem with my
48 mb. I think it gives the bn more room to work with and perhaps that
might help in its operation. I don't know. Someone from PDI will have to
answer that one along with why the 48 mb chip is so expensive.
