John,

Well I've just been using Windows XP Home edition for about a week now so I don't know my way around it as well as Windows 98. It's possible that network sharing is already enabled on your computer. If it is not, it might be best if you wait for your friend to take a look at this. The option is under Control Panel and Network Connections but you have to make selections based upon how you are connecting to the internet and I'm not sure I would want to try and talk you through this via email.

You could try the following just in case file and printer sharing is already enabled on your computer. Go to Windows Explorer and then click on your C drive and pick a folder you might want to share. Right click on the folder and see if you have an option called sharing and security. If so, hit Enter on this option. Under the sharing tab, if you tab once there is a check box that says somethign about allowing this folder to be shared on the network. Check this box and then the next field you tab to will be the name to share it as. This box will default to the name of the folder you are sharing but you can change it if you like. The name you put in this hbox is simply the name you would see if you were accessing your PC from your BN. I usually just leave it the same as the name of the folder on the PC to prevent confusion. I think if you tab again, you get an option that asks you if you want to be able to write to this folder. Select yes if you want to be able to send files from your BN to the PC. Otherwise, you will only be able to look at files from the BN. Click OK and you are done. I think there is also an option to learn more about file sharing.

You could actually share the entire hard drive but it is not recommended as it is a security risk. In fact, once you get everything working and if you haven't done this already, you should turn on encryption on your wireless card and on your router. Otherwise, anyone could wander by your house and look at your files from their wireless device.

Paul
