Hi Jeff, My particular PCMCIA adapter doesn't work with my wireless card. I get a much better and consistent connection from the card slot.
My router is in the basement and I'm still able to use it throughout my house. I do have a cordless phone or two which interferes with my router no matter where I might be in the house. I'll probably get rid of those phones. Just some thoughts for what they are worth.
