Hi, Don. I do have a password on my xp machine, but not for the reason you
think<grin>.
I find that if things don't get loaded into the system tray in a timely
manner on my machine, sometimes, Norton antivirus will fail to load and
come up disabled. I find that stopping the machine and waiting for the
entry of a password gives the hard drive time to get things loaded. I
didn't start having this problem until I got an audigy 2 zs sound card for
Christmas. Before that, no problems.
I did find out that you don't have to enter a password or user name on the
bn wehen logging in. Of course, you are still given the same message about
passwords whether you enter one or not.
I thought I might have to enter the same password as on my desktop, but no.

Paul,
Did you have to set up another login account on your machine? Just
wondering what you did with the user name and password.
I set up a separate account on my xp home machine, but sure can't log into
it.

Hi. When I tried typing in family into the domain name, the bn didn't like
that. What I eventually did was to type in Paul into the server name. That
is my computer's name. However, I think that family remained in the domain
name. I never could get it to stay deleted. I did finally get things
working and even opened a word document, spellchecked it a saved it back to
my D drive. Pretty neat.
