KeyList is the name given to the program which handles the Address List
database (and the program which you use to clear "ghost messages"), and it can
handle all KeyList databases, meaning the databases created in that program,
which would be all databases of the BN because the file type used to create a
definition file which governs the database is called a "KeyList Definition
File". When you press A from the Main Menu, you should be hearing "KeyList
Menu" because that is the name of the menu. If you SPACE through this menu,
the first option will be "Add Address", and if you hit ENTER when you land on
"Add Address", you'll be taken to the "Entry List for Address List" prompt, but
if you're using first-letter
navigation from the KeyList Menu, meaning you have pressed A from the KeyList
Menu, you will receive the prompt "Entry List for Address List" because
pressing A from the KeyList Menu means you've already activated the "Add
Address" option, so you're already taken to the first prompt of the option, the
"Entry List for Address List", because pressing A from the KeyList Menu means
you already know what option you're selecting, as it's the only one in that
menu that begins with the letter A, and so there is no need to announce to you
that you've selected the "Add Address" option by pressing A. The reason you're
hearing "Entry List" is because this is the list where you enter new
information, as opposed to selecting records by entering information which is
contained in one or more records in a field, which is when you receive the
"Selection List" prompt (at a Look up), and you're hearing "Address List"
because you're in the fields of the database called "Address List" (as opposed
to, for example, the E-Mail Folders database, where, if you were to select the
option to add an address when the E-Mail Folders database was selected, you
would hear "Entry List for E-Mail Folders" as opposed to "Entry List for
Address List" because you were working with the E-Mail Folders database, and
the same would hold true with the "Selection List" prompt in that the prompt
would reflect the database selected). The same holds true when looking up
addresses in the Address List database: If you SPACE through the menu, you will
hear "Lookup Address" as the second option, and when you press ENTER on it, you
will receive the "Selection List for Address List", but pressing L from the
KeyList Menu automatically brings you to the "Selection List" because there is
only one option which starts with L in that menu, meaning you know what option
you've selected when pressing L, so there's no need to tell you that option.
After you've selected the Address List DDF through the Setup Options, you're
returned to the KeyList Setup Options menu because it's the nature of KeySoft
to return you to your current menu after you've finished an operation from
within it, and beginning with KeySoft 5.1, the "Select KeyList File", "Free
Database Space", and, for those using multilingual software on their units, the
"New Entry Languages" were grouped into a menu called the KeyList Setup Options
menu. This isn't a problem, as these are the normal prompts you should be
hearing based on the commands you're executing. Hope this helps to clear up
the confusion.

HTH,
Maria

>Hallo, again, everybody. I note with sadness that no one came up with an
>explanation for my one thousand three hundred question marks in my carols
>file, instead of the words and music.

>Could someone please refresh my memory as to what I should hear when pressing
>the letter a from the main menu. I'm sure I used to hear Address List, but
>now I hear Key List. Again, l used to generate: "Look up address", but now I
>get something like: "Selection addresses." When in Keylist file, pressing a
>generates: "Entry list for address list", when it used to give: "Add Address."

>Again, using the keylist setup options, if I select the address list file, it
>says: "for address list file press enter", and when I press enter, I get the
>message: "KeyList Setup Options." I have the 5.1 Version, Build 22, and I
>have just deleted some ghost e-mails, so has this deletion caused the problem?

>I have thoroughly enjoyed the cut and thrust of the BrailleNote list since
>rejoining it a couple of months ago, but feel too old and too unqualified to
>be able to talk knowledgeably about the future of BrailleNote products.

>Keep those messages rolling in, and all the best to all of you for 2005.

>Warm regards, as we say over here in the UK,

>Jim Taylor.
