Occasionally, the data on a CF card can become corrupted, requiring a format on
the PC. The important thing to remember is: NEVER, under any circumstances,
allow the BN/VN to format a CF card. If this happens, the card will become
unusable.

Hi Sarah;
I was cleaning up and came across this message. Lately you all have told me
that you do not need to format cf cards. Why are you telling this person
how to format a cf card on the computer?

Keith,
Here is what your student needs to do in order to format a CF card with FAT,
so it can be used with the BN:

Go to "my computer"

Select the removable drive that represents the card. For instance, mine is
drive E on my PC at work and drive F on my laptop.

Go to the file menu.

Press enter on format.

When the format dialog comes up, tab until it says file system combo box.
Down arrow until it says either "FAT" or FAT16"

Tab to the start button in the format dialog and press enter.

I hope this helps.

Sarah

That's what I thought. The client is out of state and does not know how to
format in just FAT. Not sure what we're going to do.

I would suggest never to format a CF card from the BN. I hope you had
success with formatting from the PC.

My PC always reads the file names, etc., even of KeyWord files.

I was asked if one can format the CF card from the BN, but it seems that
somewhere I read that this is unadvisable if the BN asks if you wish to
format. Any thoughts?

Hi Keith,

If your student has not solved the problem to read files composed on the bn
and stored on a cf card with the pc yet, another option to try would be to
check that the files were not perhaps stored as keyword documents. If they
were the card reader and pc would not be able to read them. Then they
should first be translated into a readable format for the pc.

Because of that, i prefer not to store keyword documents on the cf card.
Keyword text in any event takes up more room than ascii files. So one
actually saves space if you convert documents to txt and it could be read
anywhere.

Regards
Riana
