Hi Karen,

That is so cool what your mom did for you.

My mom bought me a new BrailleNote at one of the conventions this summer and I almost cried right there at the Humanware booth in front of everyone. I realize how very fortunate I am to have two units and I'm thankful every day.

Oh, what I wouldn't give to have a backup BrailleNote. On the same day I discovered my BN's latest failure, I also found out that the Millennium I use at work had utterly and completely died. I was really sad because, not only isn't it mine, but I was planning to use it as a backup while my BN was in the hospital. Oh well, life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans.

I have one of the brand-new units and I can attest to the quietness. When I
compare this unit to my older one, I'm amazed at the difference. By the
way, I love the new Braille display. I was a little bit doubtful when
Jonathan assured me that this Braille display would be better than the older
one but it's true. The cursor routing buttons are more responsive and
overall, I like the new unit even better than I did the older one. But I'm happy to have both BrailleNotes, and when I need to send this newer one back
to California, I'll have the older one as a backup.

In the beginning, the BT keys were pretty noisy and clackety, but in
newer versions they are as quiet as the QT keys, in my estimation. And
all of it is quieter than a slate and stylus. Turn the speech off in a
quiet setting and few people will know, and those who do will be
fascinated.

Well the couple of times I heard demos of things on the Braille Note Bt,
I
could hear a sort of light clacking sound as the keys came up from being

pushed down. That was one of the main reasons why I chose the qt model
over
the bt because the bt was too noisy for my book. I understand they have
quietened it down just a bit but still with the qt it is extremely
quiet. It is even quieter than my IBM which is one of the quietest
computers out
there.

You can scarcely hear the keys on the QT. I don't know about the BT.
